Formally known as Mankato Rehabilitation Center Incorporated, MRCI began in Mankato, Minnesota with the mission of rehabilitating individuals with disabilities. Over 50 years later that core undertaking is included in the organization’s mission statement – a touchstone by which the organization is governed and decisions are made: “Creating innovative and genuine opportunities for people with disabilities or disadvantages to support their community participation.”

Today, MRCI is privileged to participate in the lives of more than 3,000 individuals located throughout southern Minnesota including the southern Twin Cities Metro Area. The organization has grown from playing a role in several local economies, to becoming a major part of the region’s economy. More importantly, MRCI WorkSource is serving more people than ever before through innovative employment programs including Community Employment, Employer of Record, Center-Based Employment, Day Training & Habilitation, and the Welfare to Work program, among several others.

MRCI is a private, non-profit organization governed by 18 board members representing various backgrounds and communities where MRCI WorkSource operates. Currently, MRCI has 305 full-time paid staff and approximately 20 part-time paid staff, that work primarily in Mankato, Chaska, Fairmont, Rosemount, New Ulm, and Shakopee. In addition, MRCI WorkSource has an active Auxiliary that make up a majority of the 120 individuals that annually volunteer at  two of the three MRCI Thrift Shop locations, which serve as a major funding source for MRCI programs.

MRCI WorkSource is currently the largest provider of both community-based supported employment and center-based extended employment in Minnesota. We offer more than 65 distinct programs that serve more than 3,000 people from Southern Minnesota and the Southern Metro areas. Of that number a record 517 people were employed last year in the competitive job market and were able to leave MRCI WorkSource services and 1137 additional people worked in supported employment.
